Directions

  • In a bowl, add ground pork and beef, breadcrumbs, evaporated milk, Worcestershire sauce, onion, garlic, black pepper, salt, egg, and sugar. Mix until well combined.
  • With your hands, separate the mixture into 8 equal portions and form them into patties on wax paper.
  • Pop them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  • In a non-stick pan over medium heat, cook the patties for 3 minutes on each side. Once cooked, transfer to a serving platter.
  • In the same pan, add the sliced button mushrooms and sauté until all sides are seared. Set aside.
  • In another pan, melt the butter.
  • Add flour and stir until it forms a light brown paste.
  • Pour in the beef broth and season with salt and pepper. Bring the broth to a boil.
  • Add the cooked mushrooms and turn the heat down to low, bringing it to a simmer to reduce and thicken the sauce.
  • Ladle over the burger steak and serve!

Alternative Cooking Method

While this burger steak recipe is a guaranteed success, you can try another cooking method to further infuse flavour into the patty. Pan-fry the beef until it forms a crispy crust layer, and toss it into the gravy to finish. The rendered fat from the patty will add new levels of flavour to the overall dish.
